Canadian Tire Centre updates arena smoking policy and bag policy

Changes aimed to provide better guest experience, security for all fans

Canadian Tire Centre (@CdnTireCtr) announced today that the venue has updated its smoking policy, effective immediately. The new policy will be in place for this evening’s Ottawa Senators (@Senators) pre-season game against Toronto and will remain in effect for all hockey games going forward.

As of this evening, guests will be able leave and re-enter the venue at Gate 1 until the drop of the puck at the start the third period. Following that time, any patrons who leave the arena will not be permitted to return to their seats. Those already outside smoking at Gate 1 as of the drop of the puck will be allowed back inside the building.

This is in addition to the current policy whereby fans are able to scan out of the building to smoke starting with puck drop in the first period. Between puck drop in period one and the puck drop of the third period, fans have the opportunity to visit the smoking area at their convenience.

This policy is also effective in Canadian Tire Centre’s restaurants. Patrons leaving the exterior doors of Bert’s Bar or Chek Point Restaurant will be subject to the same policy as those who exit at the main gate – there will be no re-entry following the drop of the puck in the third period. Restaurant guests will be allowed to enter and leave the restaurants by the doors that lead onto the club level.

The venue will also take this opportunity to reinforce its policy on e-cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes, personal vaporizers and electronic nicotine delivery systems are not permitted inside Canadian Tire Centre in any area of the building at any time.

New bag policy comes into effect for the pre-season

The Senators will also put in place a new bag policy for the upcoming season. Effective Sept. 24, any bags sized 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches or smaller will be permitted into the arena – anything larger will not be allowed. Patterned after the successful implementation of a similar policy in the National Football League, this allows for all bags in the arena to be placed safely underneath arena seating.

Canadian Tire Centre continues to listen to feedback from patrons and strives to find new ways to improve the game experience, atmosphere and security inside the building.
